Windows Search is in default disabled on windows server. It only makes sense to install Windows Search on a server, if the server is a terminalserver with a lot of users, to improve the ease of operation.

– Install the role fileserver on your Windows Server 2008 R2 machine.

– In the installation wizard check “Windows Search”

– Let the installer finish, choose the harddisks you want to index.

– Check if the service is started.
